They talk the talk, but can they walk the walk? | Chris O'Brien Lifehouse

“Exercise with the oncologist” sees oncologists join their patients once a month in the Lifehouse LivingRoom gym to sweat out a workout together.

“If you’re going to talk the talk, you’d better walk the walk,” said Dr Michelle Harrison, the first medical oncologist to step up and take part in the initiative.

“This is a great opportunity for oncologists to model what they believe in,” says Shelley Kay, LivingRoom Exercise Physiologist. “Michelle is a definite believer in exercise medicine and patients are so excited she’s here. They see it as a huge amount of support.”

Shelley and Michelle aren’t the only ones advocating for the benefits of exercise medicine. Research released in 2019 shows that people with cancer who exercise regularly experience fewer and less severe treatment-related side effects and an improved quality of life.
