Dr Emilia Prakoso is a widely published researcher. She is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, a Staff Specialist at Liverpool Hospital and Honorary Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH).

Completing her medical training at Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia, Dr Prakoso graduated in the top two of her class.

In 2008 Dr Prakoso became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), receiving her gastroscopy and colonoscopy training recognition from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) Conjoint Committee the same year. She is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the European Association for the Study of the Liver.

She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine by the University of Sydney (USyd) in 2014, focusing on ductular reaction in hepatitis C recurrence post-liver transplantation, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Science in Health Information Management from USyd.

Dr Prakoso has published widely and presented at many conferences both in Australia and overseas, including the United States, Europe and Asia. She is also co-investigator in a large number of clinical trials, including at RPAH, the Centre for Addiction Medicine at Cumberland/Westmead Hospitals and Liverpool Hospital.

Dr Prakoso performs endoscopy (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, PEG tube insertion), capsule endoscopy and fibroscan.

What training have you completed?

I completed my medical degree in Indonesia and trained as a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at RPAH Sydney. I have a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney (USyd) and my thesis was in hepatology. I also have a graduate diploma degree in Health Information Management from USyd.

My first job was...

An electone/organ demonstrator for Yamaha when I was in high school.
