Are you interested in learning about the latest in cancer treatment and research? Curious about holistic care and complementary therapies?

Keen to come and meet our lovely staff, friends and partners?

Everyone is welcome at Open House, our open day to celebrate our fifth anniversary.

We are holding this special event in partnership with Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. This cross-campus open day gives you a rare chance to learn more about the history of and the connection between these two old friends.

We’ve got all sorts of activities planned!

We’ve gathered together our top experts for a series of informative and entertaining talks on topics that include creativity in healthcare, the latest approach to living longer and living well with cancer, the hope that immunotherapy gives and how exercise and diet play such an important role in cancer treatment.

Find out more here.

We’ll take you behind the scenes to pharmacy where chemotherapy drugs are prepared, our cryotanks where we are storing cancer samples for future research and the VectorLAB where you can see how medical physics is saving lives.

Fancy yourself a surgeon? Join the robotic surgery tour where you will visit the Institute of Academic Surgery and the Robotic Surgery Training Centre at RPA.

Have you ever wondered how radiation therapy is and how it’s delivered? Join the ‘RadOnc’ tour to understand this radical form of treatment.

Lifehouse LivingRoom

At Lifehouse we treat the whole patient, not just the disease. This holistic approach incorporates the latest evidence in supportive care and complementary therapies. It’s known that integrative therapies like oncology massage, mindfulness, yoga, acupuncture and music therapy help cancer patients with the effects of the disease and its treatment.

In the LivingRoom, the day will begin at 9:30 with an educational session on lymphoedema, and our specialists will remain on hand all day to give talks and answer your questions. Throughout the whole day (10:00-4:00) we’ll be offering free sessions including massage, acupuncture, yoga, mindfulness and reflexology – visit LivingRoom reception to book.

Christmas market and informative stalls

Our friends, partners and staff will be on site to answer your questions about everything related to cancer. We’ll have everyone from Look Good, Feel Better and CanTeen to Beyond Five and the Lifehouse Prostate Cancer Support Group.

We’ll have fabulous Christmas gifts on sale from the Lifehouse LivingRoom, Arterie and the Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation.

There’ll be food, face painting for the kids and boomerang painting for all.

We understand and believe in the transfromative power of music and performance for its ability to assist patients during treatment through relaxation, stress reduction and mood improvement. We have lined up a day of amazing performances featuring members of our community that we hope will keep you entertained all day long, including:

  • 10:00 Alexandra Hewish (Pianist)
  • 11:00 Knox Grammar School band

Research exhibition

It is our mission to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their carers and families by advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of the disease. Research is fundamental to successfully delivering this mission.

Medicine is constantly evolving, and our understanding of cancer grows all the time. Research is fundamental to giving our patients access to the latest thinking in cancer treatment.

We’re justifiably proud of the research our teams are conducting. Because the research is carried out by the same clinicians that treat our patients, the path to new treatments and discoveries is shortened.

Come and walk through our research exhibition to see the full breadth of work that we’re doing so that we can deliver on our mission for our patients.

RPA Open Day

The festivities continue across the road with talks, stalls, museum tours and health promotion. See here for more information.

All are welcome

This day is our chance to welcome the Lifehouse community back through our doors and invite new people in to learn more about us. Please come down and say hello, we can’t wait to show you around.

We are grateful for the support of our sponsors for this important milestone. We would not be here without them. Thank you Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Varian, Konica Minolta, Meditech, Optus, Oneview and Rauland.
