In 2018, we launched the Keith Cox OAM Clinical Education Fund, a program that enables nurses and allied health staff of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to expand their training and professional development.
The scholarship is named after Keith Cox OAM, a cancer nurse practitioner who retired from practice at Lifehouse in 2018 after 47 years of caring for patients and families.
The Fund supports a wider initiative within Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to further educate and upskill nurses and allied health staff. Nurses are fundamental to our model of care. By investing in their development, we have seen ideas such as a rapid access clinic for head and neck cancer come alive, directly impacting the lives of patients. As with everything we do, the goal is better patient care and outcomes.
Keith now volunteers at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, sharing his years of experience and passion for teaching. Since its launch last year, the fund has raised an enormous $152,000. Thanks to your support, our first recipients have been awarded.
“The experience allowed me to liaise and network with other sarcoma nurses across Australia and provide evidence-based care to my patients,” shares Katie Thomson, a sarcoma clinical nurse specialist at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. She applied to the program to attend the Australian Sarcoma Group 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting in Perth. This funding allowed Katie to stay at the forefront of sarcoma research and treatment, ensuring that our patients receive the best care possible.
We are deeply grateful to our supporters who make this program possible and look forward to updating you on our progress.
