A pioneer in cancer nursing – Chris O'Brien Lifehouse
 In Lifehouse News

We’re thrilled to announce that gynae-oncology nurse practitioner Shannon Philp has been named a finalist in the HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards.

Shannon is an outstanding role model for nursing and is held in high regard everywhere she works, ensuring respect for patients and their families and preparing our nurses of the future.

As the first nurse practitioner in gynae-oncology in Australia, Shannon has led the development of services to support women with cancer, like her nurse colposcopy clinic and sexual function and intimacy clinic. Shannon established the first fast track surgery nurse role to support women post-surgery, focused on ongoing support and symptom management.

She is passionate about inspiring nurses to follow in her footsteps and is dedicated to passing skills and knowledge on to nurses of the future. With a strong desire to increase the evidence base for her patients, she is an active researcher with more than 20 publications to her name.

We asked Shannon how it felt to be a finalist, here’s what she had to say.
