Lester Phillips began his nursing career in 1972, and over the past 50 years has specialised in cystic fibrosis, oncology, palliative care and grief counselling in hospitals and clinics across Australia.

His passion for nursing came from a desire early on to help people, and he has since found that it was a passion shared with the late Professor Chris O’Brien AO,  “Watching Professor O’Brien on RPA for all those years made me realise that this man was not only an inspiration to his patients. I realised that he started to be my inspiration and his compassion and dedication encouraged me to continue nursing.”

A long time donor, Lester has also written a short story to commemorate 50 years of nursing and has dedicated it to Professor O’Brien.

“I hope to be a supporter of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse for many years to come. Not only do I want to continue to help patients, but also as a way to keep alive the memory of such an inspirational and well-loved man.”
