When Sam Bogaert (pictured above 2nd from right) decided to do Ironman WA to raise money and celebrate her sister Allison’s life, a friend suggested the 4sistas name for the team. Sam explains, “Not just for me to celebrate but for all of us to celebrate the lives and show our support through ‘the big C journey’, whether our sisters are by blood or those we choose to call our sisters they mean the world to us.”
“Five years ago I lost my sister Allison to Ovarian Cancer. It was heart wrenching. Through her work at RPA and also from everything she faced battling cancer, Allison was a big supporter of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Her one request for her funeral was that all donations go to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. To honour her memory, on Dec 4, which would have been Allison’s 50th birthday, I along with some beautiful friends will be participating in Ironman WA and swimming 3.8km, cycling 180km and running 42.2km. We will be racing 4sistas everywhere who have faced cancer or lost loved ones.
“Watching friends and family with ‘the big C’ makes me more inspired to not only train but also grab life and live it! Love those around you, be kind and remember life is too short to waste it!”
