Lymphoedema therapy centres on empowering patients to manage their chronic condition through structured reduction and management phases. Lymphoedema therapy offers a broad range of therapies including:
- Early intervention screening following cancer surgeries
- Education on prevention
- Assessment of new and chronic oedemas
- Exercise prescription
- Compression bandaging
- Compression garment prescription – custom made and ready to wear products
- Manual lymphatic drainage
- Scar management
- Self-management techniques
Lymphoedema treatments are not available for rebate through Medicare but private health funds will rebate under Occupational Therapy. Patients are also accepted on Enhanced Primary Care Plans.
Nicole Kelly (Lymphoedema Therapist)
Nicole is a qualified Occupational Therapist with seven years’ experience across both public and private healthcare. Nicole works at Mt Wilga Hospital two days per week in the Lymphoedema Clinic in a multidisciplinary team to improve the health and independence of patients. Previously she worked at St George Hospital for over five years across the trauma, neurology, orthopaedics and lymphoedema departments. From here she developed her passion for lymphoedema and identified the need to improve access to services. Nicole is registered on the National Lymphoedema Practitioner Register (NLPR) and is treasurer for the Lymphoedema Support Group of NSW.
