We are thrilled to announce that Lifehouse Board Director Gail O’Brien has joined the hospital staff as Patient Advocate. Here’s a message from Gail.
I hope you all had a happy Christmas and New Year season, and I wish each of you joy and peace in 2017.
Today, Tuesday January 10, 2017, I shall be commencing a new role at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse as Patient Advocate. It’s a wonderful privilege for me to have been offered this opportunity and I look forward to bringing my passion and experiences to the role, to contribute to the exceptional care that our patients receive.
The experiences of Chris’ illness over a period of two-and-a-half years taught us both a lot from the perspective of the patient and carer. As many of you know, harnessing those personal experiences for collective lessons and wider benefits has been a driving motivation for the work I’ve done in the years since Chris’ death.
What’s more, the subsequent serious illnesses of two of my children have also left lasting impressions on me which I carry into this role.
I am hopeful that by visiting patients with a “listening heart”, they will find it valuable and beneficial.
